Journey of an Author
General Osteopathic Treatment was a book that I wanted to write because I felt there was no book like that in the osteopathic landscape. It was certainly inspired by the Body Adjustment (BA) that I learned in the UK. But instead of showing a singular way of doing things, I wanted to demonstrate a full body general treatment as something that could be altered and customized in the way that I understood the work. In writing the book I was able to review the mechanisms and the concepts of general treatment from an anatomical perspective. This book is taught in Level 1 of the program at the CAO, and has became very successful. As I understand it, it is being used in many schools in Canada and internationally.
Osteopathic Principles Applied in Mechanics and Practice is the book that was written in and around Collective Mechanics ™. It makes up our Level 2 and 3 curriculum and is really what makes my school’s osteopathic offering to students unique in the educational landscape. There are many other books I have authored in addition to these. Some available publicly and some only available to CAO students. These are in addition to countless internal essays, articles and manuals that are also used at the CAO.
I’ve worked with some very high level people in academics over the years. PhDs in education and curriculum development, doing a lot of academic work to support the curriculum at the CAO. From establishing lesson plans, learning objectives and educational outcomes, to propelling our educational offering forward, in and around how we teach the curriculum here at the CAO. It’s been truly life-changing to be able to work with highly esteemed academics and establish written works and curriculum that stands up to the scrutiny of external investigation when compared to international benchmarks. This continues to be highly important for the direction of the school.
